Trois-Rivières (Three Rivers) was founded in 1634 by Nicolas Goupil, the Chevalier de Laviolette. The second oldest settlement in Canada after the City of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Sieur de Laviolette gave the city the name because of the two channels formed at the mouth of the Saint-Maurice River, which gave the impression of three rivers. Trois-Rivières is in the Mauricie region of Quebec, Canada. the city of Trois-Rivières combines the neighbouring towns of Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Sainte-Marthe-du-Cap, Saint-Louis-de-France, Trois-Rivières-Ouest, and the municipality of Pointe-du-Lac. The Trois-Rivières metropolitan area also includes the city of Bécancour. Trois-Rivières est une ville du Québec (Canada), située sur la rive nord du fleuve Saint-Laurent à l'embouchure de la rivière Saint-Maurice au cœur du Québec.
